Basic Functions

PROTECTIVE SPECIALIST – ADMIN

 

Provides high quality customer service duties to include assisting in protecting persons and property throughout the various facilities and locations of the Authority. Provides visibility within the station and be willing to assist customers with restroom, breeze cards, station entry etc. in order to improve the customer experience. Employees filling this position are approved with non-lethal weapons.

 

1. Controls access to the MARTA headquarters building serving as the first point     of  contact for persons entering or visiting. Reports and escalates any unusual circumstance or hazard to the appropriate personnel.

2. Provides surveillance of the loading dock area, the building interior and exterior, and the adjacent parking deck to prevent entry by unauthorized persons, theft, and other unauthorized activities.

3. Allows building access to cleaning staff and other contractors during various hours making certain appropriate entry identification is checked.

4. Monitors building to identify potential fire, safety, or crime hazards. Reports any unusual circumstance or hazard to the appropriate personnel.

5. Provides proper emergency notification and secures appropriate assistance when needed. Renders first aid and other emergency assistance as appropriate or required.

6. Makes certain all building alarm panels and video equipment is operational, reporting any malfunction to the appropriate maintenance personnel.

7. Prepares detailed written reports describing any unusual incident that occurs in the building.

8. Performs related duties as assigned.

 

PROTECTIVE SPECIALIST – FIELD OPERATIONS

 

Provides high quality customer service duties to include assisting in protecting persons and property throughout the various facilities and locations of the Authority. Provides visibility within the station and be willing to assist customers with restroom, breeze cards, station entry etc. in order to improve the customer experience. Employees filling this position are approved with non-lethal weapons.

 

Assists with station coverage by monitoring crowd control and passenger safety during special event.

Assists customers with restroom entry and information related to services (i.e. breeze machine, bus/rail scheduling, etc.)
Engages in customer engagement and assist in improving the overall customers experience.
Provides additional visible presence with public areas and act as additional eyes and ears for the police.
Provides proper emergency notification and secures appropriate assistance when needed. Renders first aid and emergency assistance as required.
Prepares detailed written reports describing any unusual incident that occurs.
Monitors and patrols designated locations (including but not limited to: bus/rail yards, precincts, towers, parking lots, etc.) to identify potential fire, safety, or crime hazards. Reports and escalates any unusual circumstance or hazard to the appropriate personnel.
Performs related duties as assigned.

Special Requirements

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Must successfully complete assigned training, including use of OC Pepper Spray, the ASP baton, handcuffs, first aid, and CPR.
2. Must pass a physical examination, including a drug and alcohol screen.
3. Must pass a background investigation identical to MARTA Police Officers.  A polygraph and psychological test will be required.

4. Must possess a valid Georgia driver’s license.

5. Will be given consideration to become a Certified Law Enforcement Officer after the completion of one year of service as a Protective Specialist.

 

PROTECTIVE SPECIALIST – FIELD OPERATIONS

In addition to the requirements stated above, must also successfully complete two weeks of training prior to deployment.
